4. Rand-Air powers the mining industry with new 500 KVA Generator

Here at Rand-Air, we always strive to find new solutions for various and challenging industries.
One such sector where Rand-Air has made great strides is the mining industry. By analysing the needs of the mining industry and exploring the appropriate technologies, the company continuously expands its offerings, in order to meet the most challenging needs of the market.

This is according to Craig Swart, our Fleet Manager for Rand-Air, who points out that mines generally have a larger power requirement than most other applications, and that is why the new 500 KVA Generator from Rand-Air is the ideal solution for this industry.

“Mines will be able to have two of these units running at the same time and not have to worry about a break in power,
because the machines back each other up. Furthermore, Rand-Air provide each and every client with 24-hour back-up
and after-sales service in the unlikely event that one of the machines may need to be replaced,” he adds.

“We have just taken delivery of the first two 500 KVA generators from Belgium, and expect delivery of another
two,” says Craig. “Further to that, we have had enquiries from many industries, including large sporting events
such as the ICC Champions and also for use in petrochemical plant shutdowns.”

According to Craig, the 500 KVA has several advantages which make it the most ideal and also the safest solution for the mining industry. This unit is fully and easily portable, it also has a spillage free frame, shutdown valves and a spark arrestor which is essential for safe mining. In addition, this is a highly fuel-efficient unit, with reduced carbon emissions.

3. Net Promoter Score (NPS)

What does it mean?

Many of our valued customers would have received an e-mail after a hire over the past year, asking them to complete a short survey about their rental experience. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and is administered by an independent research firm.
The survey covers aspects about Rand-Air, such as communication, relationship-building, availability of equipment, quality and reliability of equipment, delivery, responsiveness, knowledgeability and helpfulness of staff, and invoicing time and accuracy.

How does it benefit you, the customer?

All of this feedback helps Rand-Air improve its service offering, resulting in an improved, efficient service offering to its customers.

When a customer completes a survey, they are assured that their issues and comments are proactively addressed, thereby ensuring their continued satisfaction with Rand-Air.
Net Promoter allows us to categorize customer surveys into three groups based on their willingness to recommend Rand-Air to a friend or colleague:

Ultimately, the best predictor of customer satisfaction is if a customer would recommend Rand-Air to a friend or colleague. Using a 0 to 10 scale, one calculates the Net Promoter Score (NPS) by taking the percentage of Promoters, and subtracting the percentage of Detractors.

Net Promoter allows us to categorise customer surveys into three groups based on their willingness to recommend Rand-Air to a friend or colleague:

Promoters (score 9-10) are loyal enthusiasts who will keep buying and refer others, fueling growth.
Passives (score 7-8) are satisfied but unenthusiastic customers who are vulnerable to competitive offerings.
Detractors (score 0-6) are unhappy customers who can damage your brand and impede growth through negative word-of-mouth.

5. Making the Most of Change - Rand-Air Team Learns Personal Change Mastery, Resilience
Leading local plant-hire and equipment rental company, Rand-Air, has always invested substantially in the personal and professional development of its people, believing that this is the key not only to more productive and effective, but to a happier and more fulfilled team.

Well-known South African clinical psychologist and Certified Facilitator in the Demartini Personal Transformation Method, Mark Kahn, was recently brought in by Rand-Air to run a Personal Change Mastery course; which was attended by a wide selection of staff, from across the business, including finance, sales, and field service, amongst others. “The primary goal of Mark’s work is to catalyse people’s potential to grow, change and develop themselves individually and in teams, specifically around their ability to communicate, manage and lead effectively. This really resonates with Rand-Air’s own ethos and practice of continuous people development,” points out Louwrens Erasmus, General Manager of Rand-Air.

Rand-Air participants were taken on a challenging journey, from examining their personal change histories, to issues such as control versus helplessness, victim versus mastery, and the benefits of change.

Changes and challenges ranged from how learning how to think about the financial constraints brought on by the current recession as a blessing – learning better financial management – to overcoming a variety of work-related and personal challenges, from difficulties with colleagues to divorce - through practicing personal change mastery.

“The topics we tackle on this course are not always easy – in fact, most of them are not,” Kahn admits.

“However, as is the way with Demartini training, participants are constantly encouraged to analyse and accept the double-sided nature of all things, events and circumstances in their lives and those of others.

“When most of us experience changes – and these can be anything from changing jobs to moving house, or getting married or divorced - we typically only focus on the negative aspects of the experience – such as, being in pain, being discomforted or inconvenienced.

“In a sense, there is a ‘no pain, no gain’ thread running through this – one must experience the bitter to experience the sweet, learn to look for the potential benefits of what at first may appear to be just another difficulty…If one can accept this, and move on to access authenticity and power in all situations – as opposed to justifications and the ‘victim mentality’ – then one can truly move on and make progress,” he emphasises.

Rand-Air participants were extremely enthusiastic in describing their experiences of the course:

“Although I may have thought I knew a lot of this before the course, in doing the work with Mark and my team mates, I really saw that we do not in fact practice it in every day life – and that if we do, the benefits are tremendous,” comments Liesel Johnson, External Sales Consultant at Rand-Air who attended the course.

“I am so glad that I attended, it has been a real eye-opener learning to see the ‘other side’ in all situations in which
I find myself. The personal power one can access, in learning how to move from a position of living in crisis to one of living in control and in moving away from a ‘victim mentality’ is enormous,” adds Vincent Mgabi, Service Administrator at Rand-Air who also attended.

“As a company, Rand-Air is committed to assisting our people to grow and develop, and we know that the benefits are not just personal. Through their participation in courses such as Personal Change Mastery, they are learning how to become more resilient and more effective both in their personal and working lives, and therefore contributing to building a better, stronger Rand-Air team,” concludes Louwrens Erasmus.
